Tuis on Flax

Tuis, New Zealand native honey eaters found throughout Aotearoa, have a friendly disposition. They were kept as pets by Maori in the past and legend says, “Never tell a tui your secret as they will tell everyone.” In this painting they are depicted in one of their favourite environments enjoying the nectar from the flowers of the harakeke, or New Zealand native flax.
